Event Regulations
Mavic service vehicles will be in attendance
Each entrant must register and book themselves onto the ride!
You must be 16 years of age on the day of the ride to participate (under 18's must have the consent of a parent or guardian and be accompanied by a nominated adult at all times whilst on the ride). Parents of under 16's should contact the organisers if they require an entry.
No refunds are available. You may NOT ride under someone else's number under any circumstances. Failure to comply with the rule will result in disqualification. We will not be accepting substitutions after the closing date or on the day of the ride. Entries on the day are subject to availability.
If you cannot take part then you may find another cyclist to take your place and the organisers will arrange a substitution at a fee of £10 / €15 payable to the Dragon Ride. The original entrant will NOT be refunded his/her entry fee.
Rider's number, issued prior to the ride or at registration, must be displayed for identification at checkpoints and is your passport to refreshments, broom wagon and post event pasta party.
Entries on the day are subject to availability.
No bicycle, tandem or other machine, conventional or otherwise, is permitted to have unconventional handlebars including triathlon bars, aero bars, clip-ons, prayer bars, and cow bars. Neither is Spinachi type bars permitted. However, ATB bar ends are permitted on mountain bikes. Failiure to comply will result in exclusion
You may not deviate from the official route. Failure to comply with the rule will result in disqualification. Those entered on to the Corto 45km ride will not be able to change to one of the longer rides. Any riders who have entered on to the Corto route who are found to have ridden the Medio or Gran Fondo route will be disqualified and banned from future events.
From start to finish there will be Dragon Ride signage marking the route. The directional signage will be black arrows on a fluorescent background. Signs will also indicate when you are approaching a refreshment stop. There will be marshals (wearing fluorescent vests) located on the route both in vehicles and at stationary posts. All volunteers and staff involved in the event will be clearly identifiable. The marshals do not have the authority to stop motorists; they are there for your safety and other road users.
Please listen and obey their instructions.
You must obey all Highway Code Rules. You are requested to ride in single file where appropriate and no more than 2 abreast at any time. Please be aware of your fellow cyclists and other traffic. Please indicate your intention to stop or change direction.
Please do not pass through any traffic lights on red! The South Wales Police will be patrolling the route and any cyclists found to be riding outside of the road rules will be subject to fines Failure to comply with the rule will result in disqualification.
You may not use your mobile phone while riding. You must stop at the side of the road if you need to make or receive a call.
Dragon Ride organization reserves the right to terminate an individual's ride on health and safety grounds. The ride will take place regardless of bad weather and will only be cancelled, re-routed or stopped for reasons of safety. Entry fees, however, are not refundable.
Safety-approved cycling helmets are compulsory. We recommend cycle helmets complying with ANSI Z90/4 or SNELL standards. Any rider not wearing a helmet whilst participating on the event will be excluded. Cycling shoes, shorts and jerseys are also recommended. All riders are recommended to carry 2 drink bottles, an energy bar or similar snack, tools 2 replacement inner tubes and suitable wet weather clothing. We also advise that riders carry I/D and a small amount of money.
Riders must ensure that their bicycle is mechanically sound.
The organisers will endeavour to provide fluid and some form of food at designated "feed zones" however we cannot guarantee supplies will be available at all times and urge riders to only take what they need and be mindful of the needs of those following behind. Please note that riders should carry sufficient supplies of food and nutritional supplement, feed stations should be regarded as back up if riders own supplies run out. The organisers cannot accommodate all dietary needs, there are many retail outlets en route where additional supplies may be obtained.
No participant (other than those on tandems) may take food or drink from anyone whilst on the move. If you need food or drink, you must stop to receive it.
Mobile support vehicles in the form of cars or motorbikes are strictly forbidden and will lead to disqualification. You may however receive outside support from a stationary vehicle any such vehicle must not interfere with the progress of the riders.
You must complete the course within 9.5 hours to be classified as a finisher.
The organisers will send out regular newsletters by email to all entrants. As this is sometimes the only way of contacting riders. You may only unsubscribe from this service after the Dragon Ride has been held. All riders email details will be deleted from our database on the date that entries for next years event goes live.
